Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru, Maya, Olmec, Chinesco, Tairona, Colima, Chavin, Chimu, and Inca cultures, ca. 200 BCE to 1532 CE. An extraordinary collection of 32 beads and 3 amulets of stone, shell, pottery, and copper; most have zoomorphic and anthropomorphic forms. A few intriguing pieces include a spindle whorl bead, finely etched with radiating lines similar to a sun. A few of the animals include a crouching frog bead with incised feet and bulging eyes and a flat bird-shaped brown bead. A few anthropomorphic forms are featured on the beads, the most fascinating is a greenstone bead with a simple skull-like face on one side and two faces in profile on the verso. The largest stone is a greenstone amulet of a creature with a short tail and incised eyes and mouth. All of the beads are perforated for suspension and could be fashioned into a wearable piece or several pieces by a jeweler. Size of largest: 1.55" W x 0.9" H (3.9 cm x 2.3 cm)
