Roman, Republic to early Imperial Period, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A fabulous trio of bronze and leaded brass signet rings with incised motifs. The first is a large, ovoid face incised with a simple linear human figure holding a spear and trident, perhaps representing a soldier or perhaps the god Poseidon. The thick shank is coated with a rich green and russet patina. The second ring also boasts and ovoid face with a faint impression, perhaps of a figure in profile. The last ring is incised not only on the rectangular face, but also along the upper half of the band. The patterning is linear creating triangular geometric motifs. Size of largest face: 0.6" L x 0.8" W (1.5 cm x 2 cm); opening: 1" Diameter (2.5 cm); US ring size 6.25; rectangle face: 0.35" L x 0.25" W (0.9 cm x 0.6 cm); opening: 0.85" W (2.2 cm); US ring size: 9; ovoid ring face: 0.6" L x 0.5" W (1.5 cm x 1.3 cm); opening: 0.85" Diameter (2.2 cm); US ring size: 8

Condition
All have thick russet and green patinas. Patina on largest ring actively flaking, and not recommended for wearing. Chip and loss to periphery of face. Bending of ring band and impression is too faint to discern fully on other ovoid ring. This ring could be wearable, but patina might flake, or should be cleaned before wearing. Ring with rectangular face is wearable and has a light patina on the interior of the band.
