Native American, Midwestern United States, Illinois, Jersey County, Eastern Woodland period, ca. 500 to 1500 CE. A collection of 3 pecked and polished stone discoidal game pieces, each with a slightly recessed face. A shallow depression has been pecked into the faces of the white stone and the gray stone, creating a carinated profile to each. The third stone is slightly more ovoid, and only the upper face has been shaped into a shallow cavity or basin. The underside is pecked to create a flattened face but does not form a concave depression like the other side. Size of white discoidal: 2.7" L x 1.75" W (6.9 cm x 4.4 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
