North America, Wyoming, Warfield Springs, Green River Formation, Eocene Period, ca. 56 to 33.9 million years ago; Near East, Lebanon, Hajoula, Cretaceous period, 145 to 66 million years ago. A fabulous collection of three stone matrices, each containing a fossilized skeleton of ancient sea creatures! The first is a rectangular matrix with an extinct species of viper fish, Eurypholis boissieri, displayed in the center. The fish has a slightly gaping mouth revealing the needle teeth. The next matrix has two fish, Armigatus brevissimus, and an extinct prawn known as Carpopenaeus callirostris. This species of Carpopenaeus is only found in the Hadjoula and Maifouk outcrops in Lebanon. Last is a fossil containing a Knightia fish and a larger Diplomystus species of fish. These creatures have all developed a caramel brown hue during the fossilization process, and their spines, fins, and the distinctive curved line of the operculum gill cover, are well preserved! Size of largest matrix: 8.75" L x 4.75" W (22.2 cm x 12.1 cm); smallest: 5" L x 3.25" W (12.7 cm x 8.3 cm)
