Native American, central/midwestern United States, Eastern Woodland, ca. 100 to 1500 CE. A fabulous ensemble of 28 hand-knapped stone arrowheads of varying forms as well as an ovoid gorget. Most of the stone arrowheads exhibit flat base tangs with side notches, though some have rounded tangs, corner notches, or bifurcated bases, and nearly all have either triangular or lanceolate form heads. The ovoid gorget is carved from dark gray stone and has a pair of biconically drilled suspension holes bored into the main body. Though uncertain, scholars posit that gorgets like this were meant as decorative jewelry pieces meant to be worn around the neck or in one's hair as a pendant. Modern wooden case included. Size (largest point): 3.24" L x 1.29" W (8.2 cm x 3.3 cm); (gorget): 2.79" L x 1.24" W (7.1 cm x 3.1 cm); (wooden case): 12.125" L x 18.1" W x 2.375" H (30.8 cm x 46 cm x 6 cm)

Condition
Gorget repaired across midsection. Small losses to some points as shown. Most pieces have minor abrasions and nicks commensurate with age. Nice surface smoothness and preservation to overall forms. Each piece is glued against the red fabric backing and cannot be removed without damaging the backing or the stone itself.
