Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine collection of 27 obsidian and stone projectile points, ornaments, and other implements all displayed in a Riker case. The 2 lengthy and slightly curved obsidian with perforations at the tips may have functioned as pectorals, perhaps intended to resemble a lunar crescent. The 12 flattened pieces with piercings may have also been intended as decorative pendants. Also included is a drill or awl bit as well as 11 spear points or arrowheads, all knapped with a bifacial side and some with pointed ears and stems for hafting. Most are jet-black obsidian, while one is a matte wine-colored stone, and another is made from mottled mahogany obsidian. These blades demonstrate the razor-sharp qualities of the obsidian, and the thin pendants are so sheer, they illuminate when light shines from behind. Size of largest: 3.75" L x 0.5" W (9.5 cm x 1.3 cm); case: 12.25" L x 8.25" W (31.1 cm x 21 cm)
