Native American, Arizona, Early Archaic to Historic, ca. 5500 BCE to 1800 CE (7,500 to 200 BP). An intriguing ensemble of 26 hand-knapped stone arrowheads naturally enveloped in hues of chocolate brown, espresso, hazelnut, taupe, butterscotch, pale pink, light puce, ash grey, cream, white, and black. Featuring stemmed, triangular, triangular side notch, triangular corner notch, lanceolate, and triangular stemmed forms, these fine projectile points exemplify the types of Chiricahua, Rose Springs, Cortaro, Salmon River, Atinada, Datil, Samantha, Cottonwood, Pinto Basin, Besant, and Figueroa, and Triple T. Size of largest: 0.75" W x 2.5" H (1.9 cm x 6.4 cm); Size of frame: 12.125" W x 6.625" H (30.8 cm x 16.8 cm)
Knapped lithics, like these examples, are made using percussion, striking them with other stones; the process required to get them the correct shape requires training and skill.
