Native American, Tennessee, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oregon, Missouri, Alaska, Idaho, Utah, Ohio, Illinois, and Mexico, Early Archaic to Historic Periods, ca. 7500 BCE to 1850 CE (9500 to 150 BP). An attractive ensemble of 23 hand-knapped stone projectile points exhibiting a wide range of forms, including lanceolate, stemmed lanceolate, triangular contracting stem, triangular side notch, triangular bifurcated, ovoid, triangular basal notch, triangular stemmed, and triangular expanding stem. Formed from stones such as chert, quartz, and obsidian, these lovely arrowheads display hues of caramel, butterscotch, toffee, taupe, charcoal grey, russet, chocolate brown, expresso, cream, and white. They also are an excellent representation of the diversity of point types found throughout North America, such as Greenville, Duncan, Escobas, Gary, Rabbit Island, Toyah, Rice Lobed, Bird Bolt, Lovell, Adena Blade, Owl Cave, Humboldt, Jora, Shumla, Snyder, Cache River, Callapooya, Besant, and Columbia Plateau. Knapped lithics, like these examples, are made using percussion, striking them with other stones; the process required to get them the correct shape requires training and skill. Size of largest: 1.5" W x 3" H (3.8 cm x 7.6 cm); Size of frame: 12.125" W x 8" H (30.8 cm x 20.3 cm)
This case additionally includes a forged-iron projectile point that likely was attained by Native Americans via trade with European settlers.
