Native American, Southwestern United States, Zuni, ca. mid-20th century CE. A sterling silver bolo pendant with turquoise, nacre, tortoise shell, and coral inlays. The inlaid stones and shells are symmetrically arranged to create the eagle within bezels decorated with granulated balls and a rope twist border. The pendant is strung on a braided leather cord with the tips capped by silver conical terminals. The bird is the representation of the mythical Thunderbird, a symbol of power and strength, a popular motif that has been adopted by many Native American tribes. The Bennett style clasp is adjustable to customize the fit of this wearable bolo tie. Size of pendant: 2.125" L x 1.5" W (5.4 cm x 3.8 cm); cord doubled: 19" L (48.3 cm); quality of silver: 95% to 96.25%
