Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, United States or Canada, Tlingit, Saanich, or Haida people, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A lovely pair of tin alloy (solder) jewelry ornaments that include a nose ring and an orca (killer whale) pendant. The nose ring is a crescent shape with a stylized frog face cast into the surface. Frogs are often associated with the moon in many First Nations and Native American cultures- and the early spring moon cycle from February through March is a time known as "WEXES" or the Frog Moon for the Saanich people. The pendant has a pierced suspension hole through the dorsal fin and the eye and body are inlaid with nacre shell. Orcas in Tlingit and Haida culture are believed to be ancestors and can assume the shape of humans and can walk on the land in disguise, the orca is also believed to protect travelers and guide them home when needed. Size (pendant): 3.125" L x 1.6" W (7.9 cm x 4.1 cm); (nose ring): 1.625" Diameter x 0.45" W (4.1 cm x 1.1 cm)
