Western Europe, Spain, pre-World War I, ca. 1907 to 1910 CE. A nice example of a bolo knife with a steel blade bearing a gentle indentation along the top half, a deep fuller, a thick spine, and a pointed tip. The wooden handle is incised with crosshatched patterning to increase the wielder's grip, and a prong latch on one side allows the blade to stay put within the leather and iron sheath. A maker's mark on one side of the blade shoulder reads, "ARTILLERIA | FABRICA DE TOLEDO," a serial number on the reverse shoulder reads, "33715," and a "U" is stamped on one side of the midsection of the guard. Size (w/ sheath): 4.1" W x 17.875" H (10.4 cm x 45.4 cm); (blade): 11.75" L x 1.5" W (29.8 cm x 3.8 cm)

Condition
Small chips to wooden handle, with oxidation and light pitting to blade, and softening to maker's mark and serial number, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout, and blade edge is still sharp. Please note: prong latch does not articulate anymore, so inserting blade into sheath may cause it to stick; however, it can be removed by inserting a slender, sturdy object between the guard and sheath top and pushing against the latch.
