Born in 1960 in Sanford, Florida, and the sone of a U.S. Navy officer, Lance Fairly grew up truly experiencing the ocean -surfing, sailing, and enjoying many other ocean sports. Furthermore, his first job at age 15 was as a lifeguard for the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Corp in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He also had a passion for visual art. According to his mother, at age 5, he ran inside to draw the sun's rays he had seen beaming through the clouds on a chalkboard. Lance studied art at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida - providing the foundation to blend his enthusiasm for nature and art.
