Oceania, New Zealand, Maori, ca. 20th century CE. A stunning nephrite jade koru set in a sterling silver pendant with an opal and black garnet stones; the stone is likely older than the rest of the pendant. Hand-carved and from a high-quality nephrite, the koru spiral represents the unfurling of a fern head and the regeneration of new life. The loop pendant setting is secure and hand-made to fit and accent this lovely koru- an ovoid cabochon of fire opal and a teardrop garnet are set into form fitting bezels. The verso of the bail is signed "CJB," and the pendant is strung on a wearable cord with a lobster clasp as a stunning necklace. Size (pendant): 3" L x 2.25" Diameter (7.6 cm x 5.7 cm); (cord): 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 99.3%; weight: 51.8 grams
