Latin America, Mexico, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A vintage handwoven textile with a cotton border and nylon woven panel with a hand painted motif of an iconic Mexican man wearing a sombrero. The outer border is comprised of a tight weave in cotton threads; three registers in red, black, blue, white, and green. The interior is a looser weave of thin nylon threads that create the surface for the painting. The painted area is framed by twine cords. The man is seated, slumped forward as if asleep and large pottery bowls, cactus, and agave plants surround this siesta scene. Size: 20" L x 13.5" W (50.8 cm x 34.3 cm)
