Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Inuit, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A charming hand-carved stone polar bear on a base. The polar bear is carved from light-colored stone that is highly polished. The bear has been simplified to the most basic profile that is still instantly recognizable as this majestic animal. Resting on delineated legs, his snout points upward as if scenting the air. The rectangular base is made from a warm orange and mottled black stone that compliments the creamy, beige and taupe hues of the bear. The underside of the base is carved with the initials of an unknown maker "RM." Size: 4.5" L x 1.5" W x 2.75" H (11.4 cm x 3.8 cm x 7 cm)
