William Joseph "Bill" Freeman (American, 1927-2012). Oil on canvas, ca. mid 20th century CE. A picturesque landscape painting by American artist Bill Freeman. Freeman presents us with an awe-inspiring view of a sunlit mountain range from the autumnal landscape below, with golden trees along the horizon line. The sun radiates natural light over the mountains which glisten in hues of pink and lavender, while dramatic shadows strike the peaks closest to the viewer, providing rich contrasts. Freeman's painting possesses an almost ethereal quality thanks to the dreamy color palette as well as his signature style that demonstrates influences of Impressionism and Expressionism achieved via a sophisticated use of palette knife and brush. Size: 21.875" L x 27.875" W (55.6 cm x 70.8 cm)
Bill Freeman grew up in West Texas on a farm just outside of El Paso. Interestingly, he worked as a horse wrangler, fought forest fires for the U.S. Forest Service, and was a field researcher and guide for the Arizona Game and Fish Department for twelve years in Arizona, Wyoming, and New Mexico prior to becoming an artist. It was not until the age of 30 that Freeman decided to become an artist specializing in Western landscapes. Today he is considered a pioneer of Western art centered on such storied locales as Scottsdale, Arizona as well as Jackson Hole and Grand Tetons National Park, Wyoming.
Although this painting is not signed, a document from a representative of the William J. Freeman Estate confirming that it was painted by Bill Freeman can be provided upon request.
