North America, United States, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden weathervane depicting a Native American chieftain rowing a canoe with his oar dipped off the right side of the vessel. The lengthy canoe is painted red and accented with white pigment along both ends, and the chief dons both a beige vestment as well as a grand feathered headdress. A petite mortise in the bottom of the canoe enables the weathervane to rotate freely atop the accompanying wooden base, itself painted with vibrant red and white pigments. Size (canoe & paddler): 22.4" L x 9.125" H (56.9 cm x 23.2 cm); (mount): 7.3" L x 6" W x 21.4" H (18.5 cm x 15.2 cm x 54.4 cm); 27.375" H (69.5 cm) of canoe & paddler on included custom stand.
