A mesmerizing hunter spirit mask skillfully made by native Inupiat artist Lenwood Sacchaus, with an expressive central face, representing the "Hunter", hand-carved from Alaskan cottonwood and featuring openwork eyes, nostrils, and mouth, two vertical brown striations running over his eyes and an otherwise red complexion, and surrounded by a wooden circle representing the heavens and/or earth, adorned by white walrus ivory spirit hunter animal ornaments (perhaps whale, walrus, seal, seal flipper, and/or whale flipper), bird feathers representing "Good Bird Hunting", and two appliques that represent the Hunter's tools - a paddle and a spear. The verso is signed "Lenwood Sacchaus / Elim Alaska." Size: 6.25" W x 6.45" H (15.9 cm x 16.4 cm); 8.3" H (21.1 cm) on included custom stand.
