Michelle Champion Murphy (American, active 20th to 21st century). "Italian Escape" watercolor, ca. 2015. Signed in pencil on lower right. An inspirational large-scale watercolor painting by Michelle Champion Murphy of Savannah, Georgia depicting a picturesque Italian landscape with a shimmering luminosity that only a master of this medium can achieve. Murphy is an expressionistic colorist whose art is fueled by her "exuberance for the natural world surrounding her." In this piece Murphy invites the viewer to experience a birds-eye view of a beautiful seaside town in Italy, mesmerizing us with her glowing palette and dazzling light effects. A dreamy composition, presenting rolling verdant hills dotted by red-roofed buildings and leafy trees, an arched structure that conjures images of ancient Roman aqueducts and leads the eye to a charming dock, and sailboats skimming the pristine turquoise waters - set within an attractive, custom frame. Michelle Champion Murphy Murphy earned her Fine Arts degree at Marymount College, continued to study while raising a family in Michigan, and currently lives and works in Savannah, Georgia. Her work has been exhibited at Goodyear Cottage Gallery, Jekyll Island, Georgia (2021); Downstairs Gallery, Savannah, Georgia (2018 and 2016); Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia (2009); Anderson Gallery, St. Simons Island (2002), Georgia, and more.

#171972This watercolor has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in excellent condition. It is signed in pencil by the artist on the lower right. Minor pinholes - one at the upper right and one at lower right corners - are difficult to see. Frame is excellent, wired for suspension, and ready to display.Condition
