Ancient Eastern Greece, Geometric period, ca. 8th century BCE. A stunning gathering of twenty wire-form hair accessories made from 81% to 88% gold (equivalent to 18K+ to 21K+) that exhibit serpentine forms and fine layers of lustrous patina. Three coiled hair rings have double-layered strands that terminate in twisted, crimped ends, and two of the larger hair coils bear one end that terminates in either three of four petite loops. One ring bears a thicker, two-layered body with dozens of incised exterior striations, and three slender pins have flat, discoid finials. Six shorter coils bear spiraled terminals with wrapped loops on either end with one bearing straight terminals. A pair of coils have flattened terminals, and the smallest pair features gold granules on pyramidal terminals. A fantastic gathering of ancient hair accessories! Size of largest (spiral w/ three end loops): 2.5" W x 3.125" H (6.4 cm x 7.9 cm); quality of gold: 81% to 88% (equivalent to 18K+ to 21K+); total weight: 412.4 grams.
