Europe, probably England or somewhare in the UK, 1908. A wonderful pair of bucolic landscapes, both delineated with ink wash on paper, both signed and dated "A. r. d. B. 1908" on the lower left . The "d" in front of the "B" suggests the "noble of". One of the sheets has a watermark with a crown above "CR" and both appear to be on the same type of fine paper. One composition features a young man dressed in a wide-brimmed hat, a buttoned coat, a shirt, knickers, stockinged legs, and shoes on his feet, traversing a dirt road with his walking stick while carrying belongings on his back, with cattle behind a fence to his left and a body of water to his right occupied by several sailboats and fishermen. On the other side of the water are a few quaint edifices, and there is a windmill in the distance. Size: 15" W x 9.625" H (38.1 cm x 24.4 cm)
Paired with this is a complementary scene of almost the same size, perhaps depicting the same cattle and farm of the pendant composition. In addition to the long-horned cattle, there is a woman carrying buckets of milk or water over her shoulders at the center, a couple wearing hats and appropriate attire overseeing the land toward the right, lovely thatch-roofed buildings behind the water/milk carrier, leafy trees here and there, and the silhouette of a townscape in the distance. Size: 14.5" W x 9.25" H (36.8 cm x 23.5 cm)
Provenance: ex Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA acquired before 2000

Condition
Both are signed and dated "A. r. d. B. 1908" on lower left. Both have minor stains/abrasions to versos of upper corners, likely from use of adhesive to display at one point, but these do not impact the imagery of the compositions. Both show slight toning and a few stains. Sheet with water/milk carrier has watermark (crown above CR). Minute loss to upper right corner. Small crease marks to other corners. Sheet with man carrying a pack and using walking stick shows losses to upper edge on the left side, minute losses to corners, and a few crease marks.
