A beautiful pair of European Neoclassical prints! First is a James Watson (British born in Ireland, ca. 1730 - 1790) mezzotint of "The Parting of Hector and Andromache" by Angelica Kauffman (British raised in Switzerland and Italy, 1741-1807). The inscription includes the artists' and publisher's names, the title in English and Italian, and following publication line: "London Printed for Robt. Sayer, Map & Printseller, No. 53 in Fleet Street. / Published as the Act directs 1st. Jany. 1772." In this image Andromache embraces Hector who dons battle attire with a plumed helmet an a long spear and turns toward her. To the left, a nurse holds a baby. To the right are tents in the distant landscape. The ensemble of figures are presented before architecture with classical elements. Next is a Charles Clement Vervic (French, Paris 1756-1822 Paris) engraving of "Dejanira Being Abducted by the Centaur Nessos, a Man with Bow and Arrow at Right" after Guido Reni (Italian, Bologna 1575-1642 Bologna), printed by Ramboz (French, active Paris, 1793-1830) and published by Charles Clement Bervic (French, Paris 1756-1822 Paris) in 1802. "The Parting of Hector and Andromache" - laid on mounting board. Trimmed as shown. Remains of adhesive (not tacky) on mounting board surrounding but not impacting the image. Normal toning and age wear to image. "Dejanira Being Abducted by the Centaur Nessos …" protected in cellophane wrap against foam core backing. Some toning to paper (visible in margins). Crease marks and a few stains to margins. Notes handwritten in pencil at bottom including "$3200 pair"
