- Lot Description
Ancient Near East, Byzantium, ca. 11th to 12th century CE. In a word, WOW! A lovely pair of matching Byzantine glass bracelets with elaborate decoration. Each bangle is comprised of cobalt blue glass with overlapping ends to create a nice seam - and meticulously decorated with enamel circular motifs that each feature an azure blue center surrounded by sky blue/light green beaded borders. These motifs are joined in a contiguous arrangement resulting from the elegant 'beaded' border that surrounds them all and traces the curved contours of the interior motifs. Sky blue/light green slender bands line the upper and lower profiles of the bracelets as well, complementing the hues of the decorative motifs. Exquisite and quite rare to find a matching pair! Size: 2.875" in diameter (7.3 cm); interior measures 2.375" in diamter (6 cm)
