England or United States, ca. 1880 to 1920. A pair of matching, sizeable, and impressively opulent antique frames, finely crafted from wood, gesso, and copper leaf with mesmerizing reliefs and sumptuous wine red velvet. Each frame is intricately carved with ornate floral and decorative passages. At the centers of each side of the frames is a register of leafy floral vines with buds, blossoms, and leaves in bas to high relief against a crisscross honeycomb-like ground. Each corner presents a passage of floral clusters against a nested diamond-motif ground. All is surrounded by a beaded border, and the decorative registers are separated by beaded sections that are further decorated with striated grounds and scrollwork borders. The frames may be displayed in either portrait or landscape orientation. Size: each measures 39.625" L x 33.625" W (100.6 cm x 85.4 cm)
Moving inward, there are raised cylindrical rails that are covered in wine red velvet at their centers and adorned by stunningly decorated corners, each one marked by a daisy or sunflower blossom at the center of the nested diamond motif passages, these terminating in thick raised bands. Finally, the innermost surround of the frame presents a beaded border accentuating a tiered flat passage.
These frames demonstrate the utmost artistry and workmanship and while likely originally used to frame stately portraits would be perfect to create an incredible pair of mirrors for a foyer or dining room. This said, they are also magnificent as is, and could easily stand alone as works of art!

Condition
The restoration on these frames was not extensive, focused mainly on the corners which had a few indentations, and the velvet is original. Thus, the frames are largely very close to their original states. There is slight age wear of course with minor nicks and scuffs in areas, especially to peripheries and high-pointed areas. Remnants of former gallery paper that was torn away is on the versos. There are expected tiny perforations on versos from previous attachments. Overall, these frames are in excellent condition given their antique status.
