Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan culture, ca. 500 to 100 BCE; Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Central America, Costa Rica, Nicoya region, ca. 600 to 1000 CE. A fine gathering of 4 hand-built pottery figures from across ancient Mesoamerica. First is a fragmentary Michoacan "pretty lady" figure features a trio of necklaces beneath a trio of nose rings. Next are 2 Jalisco "sheepface" figures - one with an orange and white color scheme who stands on broad feet, and the other decorated with red and white pigments bearing a pointed nose, peaked ears, and a tall headdress. Last is a Costa Rican Nicoya figure of a monkey who sits with large feet and a 'tail' rim while holding its charming head aloft. Size of largest (red Jalisco sheepface): 2.125" W x 4.125" H (5.4 cm x 10.5 cm); 4.2" H (10.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Orange Jalisco figure has restoration to proper right arm, with resurfacing, overpainting, and earthen deposits along new material and break lines. Michoacan figure is a fragment as shown; Nicoya figure and red Jalisco figure are intact and very good. All figures have light abrasions and fading to pigment commensurate with age. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
