Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A fine set of two mold-formed faience fragments from massive standing figures covered in green and turquoise-hued glaze. Each fragment shows a pair of striding legs atop an integral rectangular plinth and surrounded by animals, the larger of which with two feline figures next to the ankles, and the smaller with a single baboon resting atop the right foot. Each fragment boasts areas of black pigmentation denoting details to the legs or animals. The striding position suggests these figures perhaps depicted certain deities or pharaohs or were merely effigies of the deceased. Size of largest (felines): 2.625" W x 5.4" H (6.7 cm x 13.7 cm).
These pieces have been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and have been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
