Karl Wilhelm Hiersemann (German, 1854-1928) after Hans Burgkmair the Younger (German, 1500-1559). Pair of color lithographs printed in Leipzig, Germany, ca. 1910. Two lithographs of knights with hand coloring - the image featuring knights on horseback heightened with silver and gilt - printed by German antiquarian and publisher Karl Wilhelm Hiersemann after Hans Burgkmair the Younger, a painter, printmaker, as well as a decorator of armor who was active in Augsburg and the son of Hans Burgkmair the Elder (German, 1473-1531). These designs were likely intended for the "Burgkmair Turnierbuch" - a book featuring a set of hand-painted illustrations created by Hans Burgkmair the Younger after unpublished designs made by his father, Hans Burgkmair the Elder. Two fascinating compositions depicting mounted members of the court and court officials clad in armour. Size: 19.9" L x 14.2" W (50.5 cm x 36.1 cm)
