Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a fine pair of stone labrets or lip plugs exhibiting an attractive minimalist design, all hand-knapped from jet-black obsidian, and polished to a lustrous finish. Both pieces of facial jewelry have a wide cylindrical body surmounted by a sloped face, and a drilled opening on the underside leading into a hollow body which allowed the wearer to fasten the back while the plug was in their lip. When held to the light both exhibit a lovely smokey green and semi-translucency on the sheer edges! Size: 1.65" L x 0.85" W x 0.65" H (4.2 cm x 2.2 cm x 1.7 cm)
