Western Europe, probably England, late Victorian period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A gorgeous ring of a delicate and slender form, shaped from 63.74% gold, with a shank incised with triangular motifs along the terminals. The ovoid ring face features an openwork design along the underside that creates a lightweight yet sturdy base within which a hand-carved, citrine-hued glass intaglio is set. Featured on the intaglio is the intriguing, left-facing visage of a woman with a slithering snake beneath her neckline, perhaps representing the Roman goddess of thaumaturgy Angitia who specialized in curing snakebites, and above her head is a second, integral face protruding skyward. Size (ring): 0.66" W x 0.74" H (1.7 cm x 1.9 cm); (shank): 0.66" Diameter (1.7 cm); (bezel): 0.56" L x 0.4" W (1.4 cm x 1 cm); (intaglio): 0.52" L x 0.36" W (1.3 cm x 0.9 cm); gold quality: 63.74% (equivalent to 15K+); weight: 3.4 grams; US ring size: 3.5

Condition
Wearable as shown. One small nick around bezel and very light abrasions to glass intaglio, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout, and great preservation to finer details on intaglio.
