North America, United States, ca. 19th century CE. A handsome percussion rifle with a lengthy iron barrel, wood stock, and brass fittings. The barrel is octagonal with a .38 caliber five-groove bore. A wooden ramrod fits into the groove and brass ramrod guides under the barrel. The lower third of the barrel features a forked sight. The lock plate is engraved with a simple linear motif, and a brass trigger guard protects the double set triggers. The wooden stock features a brass buttcap, and the wood is polished to display the warm, red graining. This is a truly beautiful rifle to hang over the fireplace or doorway.
