Native American, Western United States, Sioux tribe, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE; United States, mid-20th century CE. A beautiful rawhide sheath decorated with traditional Native American glass beadwork and a vintage Remington made steel knife. The front side of the sheath is sewn with green, white, and red seed beads that create horizontal and diamond shaped patterns. The tip of the slightly curved sheath has a tassel with black beads and tin jingle cones. The flap is adorned with sky blue and white beads and tassels with jingle cones. The central tassel passes through the flap and sheath creating a type of cinch strap. The verso is bare but for a rawhide strap for suspension. Included is an antique Remington Daddy Barlow style switchblade knife with a steel blade and bovine bone handle. The knife is clearly marked with “REMINGTON” on the handle and blade. Condition
Leather sheath has some fraying to threads. Loss to tassel on flap. Patina on cones. Beads are intact and well preserved. Knife blade is worn down as shown. Still sharp and folds easily into sheath. Age and use commensurate wear to handle.
