Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE; Europe, ca. late 19th to 20th century CE. A stunning jasper intaglio of ovoid form in mottled hues of red and black, incised with the image of Diana - Greek Artemis - the goddess of the hunt and set in an antique silver ring to be wearable. Dressed in a tunic and hair bun, the lovely goddess is shown in stride and facing left, as she holds a bow and arrow. The beautiful band displays the form of an opening flower on either side of the intaglio and tapers opposite it. The initials "Z.Z.M" or "W.Z.Z" are inscribed vertically to the right of Diana, perhaps referring to the sculptor or owner of the intaglio. A dazzling combination of ancient art and vintage style, perfect for any occasion!
