Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful miniature silver box depicting Christ as Pantocrator in bas relief with beautiful enamel detailing in cobalt blue, sky blue, sunflower yellow, and spring green hues. Christ is traditionally depicted, delivering a blessing and holding an open book of Gospels, the halo beautifully enameled and featuring letters while difficult to discern likely translate to "He Who Is". The rectangular composition is framed by a raised border, and the sides of the box present an attractive abstract pattern. In order to support traveling priests on missions, precious religious objects were made that were small enough to be carried on long journeys. Size: 1.625" L x 1.375" W x .625" H (4.1 cm x 3.5 cm x 1.6 cm); silver quality: 89%. Weight: 57.4 grams.
