Eastern Europe, Russia; Northern Europe, Denmark, Copenhagen, marked "P. HERTZ", ca. 19th century CE. A stunning pair of cloisonne silver dishes: a Russian lidded jar and a Danish spoon. First, the Russian vessel presents a circular base, a squat body, and an annular lid, all decorated with enamel in vibrant hues of cyan, emerald, scarlet, violet, cobalt, ochre, caramel, pink, and white. Intricately adorned, the lid of the vessel features the image of 3 bearded men with the central figure holding a dish and the right figure holding a string instrument, while the exterior walls of the vessel display gorgeous floral motifs with geometric designs. The rim of the elegant vessel is embellished by a twisted band of silver, as well as 14 applied silver orbs. A tab-shaped handle protrudes from the lid opposite its hinge, and the number "84" is stamped on the base of the jar for its Russian silver purity. Alternatively, the silver spoon was made by the leading Danish Jeweler P. Hertz. Boasting lovely hues of emerald, cobalt, powder blue, red-orange, and white, the fine eating utensil exhibits an ovoid bowl with a vertically striated drop, shoulders resembling an Ionic column, a narrow stem, and an intricate handle flanked by 2 rows of extending circles and topped with an annular finial at its tip. The front side of the spoon is beautifully decorated with the image of 2 serpents fighting on the interior of its bowl and handle and a lone snake with an undulating body on its shoulders and stem. The verso of the spoon showcases the maker's mark "P. HERTZ" as well as "925" for the silver purity. Size of larger (spoon): 4.75" L x 0.875" W (12.1 cm x 2.2 cm); Silver quality: jar: 97.3%, spoon: 92.7%; Weight: jar: 90 grams, spoon: 13.9 grams.
