**Originally Listed At $500**
Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 19th century CE. An impressive arch-shaped scene of the Crucifixion, skillfully carved in relief from ungulate bone, and fixed to a brass-cast border and backing. The lovely example features a centrally located haloed Jesus upon a tri-barred cross, of which the top bar is inscribed with "ICXC" (the Greek abbreviation for Jesus Christ). Bare for all but a loin cloth, the Christian savior is flanked atop by 2 angels and below by 2 haloed saints; a veiled praying female to his right, perhaps Mary, and a lamenting figure with eyes closed and arms folded to his left. The scene is embellished with a dotted border and brass periphery. The verso of the piece displays an incised male figure, perhaps God the Father, shown haloed, barefoot, and draped in a toga with a bald head, pointed beard, almond-shaped eyes, as he blesses with his right hand and holds his left at his waist. Size: 1.75" L x 0.75" W x 3.125" H (4.4 cm x 1.9 cm x 7.9 cm)

Otherwise, intact and excellent with nice earthen deposit on interior and recessed areas and lovely green patina on brass. Lucite stand in photos not included.Condition
