Near East, Persia / Iran, Qajar Dynasty, ca. first quarter of 19th century CE. A splendid wooden table boasting two gorgeous oil paint inlays on its top and supported by four sturdy legs with curved feet. Adorned in a multitude of vibrant hues, the elaborate paintings display two different scenes. One panel exhibits six men on horseback and a grey dog hunting lions and deer amongst a verdant landscape embellished with intricate trees, rolling hills, and lovely floral motifs. Alternatively, the other presents a group of twelve male figures, all wearing turbans and colorful robes, fleeing from a tower where a man is trapped at the top as a sinuous green dragon wraps around the building and another man at the bottom of the scene seemingly grabs the tail of the beast. The background is dominated by a tall hill topped by a large tree filled with birds. The body of this unique example showcases a rich hue of mocha woodgrain. A thick, recessed band adorns the periphery of the table top. Size: 25.125" L x 18.75" W x 22.125" H (63.8 cm x 47.6 cm x 56.2 cm)
