Central Asia, Nepal, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A fine brass statue of a standing male deity, likely the bodhisattva Vajrasattva, lavishly adorned in an ornate headdress, as well as necklaces, armbands, bangles, and a floral motif dhoti. Standing atop a double lotus plinth, the god holds a ritual weapon known as a vajra or dorje before him in his right hand, while his left arm falls to his side grasping a bell called a ghanta - when together, as seen here, these 2 items represent the inseparability of wisdom and compassion in the enlightened mind stream. His tranquil visage is angled downward to focus on the vajra, displaying slender eyes, a graceful brow, a naturalistic nose, and full lips. Size: 3.2" W x 10.4" H (8.1 cm x 26.4 cm)
