Western Europe, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely ring of a sizable and hefty form that is wearable with any number of outfits, all formed from 77.96% gold. The minimalist shank extends upwards with terminals that expand to form the ovoid shank. Set within the bezel is a hand-carved brown agate intaglio featuring an integral opaque white boss with an incised image of a left-facing man standing nude while holding a spear behind his back with his left arm, perhaps representing Jupiter (Greek Zeus) or Mars (Greek Ares). The man also holds a kylix in his right hand with a foliate gathering dangling beneath. Condition
Wearable as shown. Intaglio is heavily polished to bring out the luster of the stone. Minor abrasions to shank and bezel, with softening to some incised intaglio details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina across gold components.
