**Originally Listed At $800**
Western Europe, England, Napoleonic Period, ca. 19th century CE. A handsome steel sword with a curved blade and hand guard. The blade has a single cutting-edge and engraved motifs on both sides. The top motif is a floral pattern; next is an emblem featuring a crossed sword and trumpet, followed by two more floral motifs. The German town name "SOLINGEN" is etched on the ricasso. The handle consists of a steel hilt with a stirrup hand guard and a forward swept quillon with a rounded finial. The handle grip is wood and retains some of the original leather and metal wire wrapping. This Napoleonic English sword was part of a massive military surplus offloaded in America in the early 19th century. The US government used them as trade to the American Indians, and Mexico used them extensively as military sidearms after 1821. Size: 36.5" L x 1.25" W (92.7 cm x 3.2 cm)
