North Africa, Maghreb, Morocco, Moorish / Arab culture, ca. 19th century CE. A marvelous pottery serving bowl presenting thick sloping walls that flare outwards and then upwards to a broad circular rim, all sitting upon a ring-form, pedestal foot. Boasting hues of lemon yellow, cobalt, turquoise, and black on a white-glazed ground, this beautiful vessel features an elaborate floral motif on its interior, comprised of several striated, lattice, petaloid, geometric, and target motifs, as well as a thick band of diagonal lines along the exterior of the rim. An annular perforation on the foot of the vessel is tied with a vegetal fiber rope, allowing the vibrant dish to be suspended for display when not in use.
