Joaquim Miro Argenter (Spanish, 1849-1914), Parisian street scene, oil on board, ca. late 19th century CE. Signed in black on the lower right corner. Born in Sitges, Spain in 1849, Joaquim Miro Argenter was a self taught painter and became the founding member of the cultural society known as Casino Prado Suburense. He was also a dedicated member of the School of Catalan Luminism, a group of artists who connected in Sitges at the end of the 19th century and created a genre of painting with the intent of capturing the vibrant Mediterranean light in their work. Miro Argenter exhibited widely including at the Fine Arts of Sitges, Sala Pares, Royal Nautical Club of Barcelona, and at the Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona. Works of his are in the collections of the Museum of SitgesSize: 13" W x 9.25" H (33 cm x 23.5 cm)
A similarly sized oil on board Parisian scene by Joaquim Miro Argenter entitled, "Paris, Automobile, Kutschen und zahlreiche Personen auf der A…" sold for $4,938 at Van Ham Kunstauktionen, Germany (May 19, 2017 - Lot 727 - illustrated on page 212 of the catalogue).
A slightly smaller oil on board by Joaquim Miro Argenter recently hammered at Sotheby's New York (November 21, 2017 - Lot 155 - illustrated on p. 155 of the catalogue) for $4000.
Another Parisian scene entitled, "La Place du Chatelet, Paris" sold at Christies, United Kingdom (February 1, 2012 - Lot 72 - illustrated on p. 34 of the catalogue) for $4,094.

Wonderful craquelure to the painting. Signature painted in black on the lower right corner. Minute nicks to edges. A faint shadow around margin, probably from former frame. An old label with #6 is on the verso.
