**First Time At Auction**
East Asia, Japan, Meiji period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A fine wood figural carving from a zushi shrine, standing atop a separate pedestal and gripping a bow shaped rod in his hands. This figure has very youthful with boyish features that are characteristic of the 8 attendants that accompany Fudo Myoo, the protector of Buddha's law. Seitaka, which this figure closely resembles, is one of the boy attendants most often shown with Fudo Myoo, aiding yet mischievous. This was probably part of a temple shrine ensemble made up of these three separate figures: Seitaka, Fudo Myoo, and the other boy attendant, Kongara. Size: 5.75" L x 4" W x 11" H (14.6 cm x 10.2 cm x 27.9 cm)
