Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Inuit, ca. 19th century CE. An interesting walrus ivory and copper tool with a sinew cord. This may have been a punching tool for piercing hide. A copper rod is slotted into a groove along the ivory's side and then wedged in place with a piece of wood. The protruding copper tip would be sharpened, and the curved ivory functioned as the handle. The wrapped sinew would facilitate grip prevent the hand from slipping. Size: 6" L x 1" W (15.2 cm x 2.5 cm)

Condition
Sinew is fraying and cracking, with a loss to the tip of cord. Scratches to the ivory. Stable fissure near copper tip. Copper is worn down. Nice patina.
