Southern Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. A finely cast-bronze statue of the elephant-headed deity Ganesh (also spelled Ganesha), the Lord of Good Fortune who provides riches, success, and general prosperity to his followers. He is depicted standing upon a lotus pedestal, and his characteristic pot belly is a result of his love for sweets. His multiple arms hold his characteristic attributes in four upraised hands. Ganesh is adorned with an elaborate headdress, jewelry, and a flowing skirt with a bejeweled belt. This petite statue is enveloped in a lovely green patina. Size: 2.5" W x 5.5" H (6.4 cm x 14 cm)
