Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, United States or Canada, Tlingit or Haida people, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A fantastic walrus ivory totemic pendant strung in modern times on a cord with a lobster clasp as a wearable necklace. The slightly curved panel is engraved with a stylized head of an orca (killer whale) inlaid with a nacre shell eye. The circles to the back of the creature's head represent the tentacles of an octopus also known as the devilfish due to their mythic sea monster qualities.
