Western Europe, Germany, Frankfurt, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE; Austria, Vienna, ca. 19th century CE. A fun collection of antique playing card decks brightly printed on cardstock. The 44 larger cards are from Germany with suits of acorns, hearts, bells, and leaves. These were likely part of a deck for the popular game of skat (scat). The other 2 decks are miniature versions of the standard French suits: hearts, clubs, spades, and diamonds. The red deck has 54 cards the blue deck has 53 cards. These are made by the Austrian company "Wiener Spielkartenfabrik Ferd Piatnik & Söhne," often shortened to just "Piatnik." These playing cards are sometimes known as pocket sized or patience decks and were intended for the game of solitaire, also known as "patience." Size German cards: 3.875" L x 2.25" W (9.8 cm x 5.7 cm); Austrian cards: 1.7" L x 1.125" W (4.3 cm x 2.9 cm)

Three different decks total. Staining and discoloration due to age/use on all decks. Fading of some pigments, but clearly printed. The miniature decks are not complete sets, missing cards and/or extra cards. Not recommended for playing due to age and incomplete suits.
