French artist associated with 89 images in "Le Follet, Courrier des Salons, Journal des Modes": Lady's Magazine and Museum; ca. 1834, No. 69. L'Administration du Journal, Rue Notre Dame de Nazareth, No. 25. A hand-colored line engraving depicting 19th century French women's fashion - a fashion plate from a popular women's magazine. Depicted are front and back views of a model wearing an elaborate white bonnet adorned with flowers by Magasins de Melle Thoulet, Rue Beaurepaire and a lace collared, blue satin gown by Magazins de Gerville, Rue de Marches Saint Honore. Custom double mat and gilded Chinoiserie frame adorned by a myriad of figures (royals, musicians, and more) and landscapes filled with pagodas and bridges, trees, mountainsides, and floral blossoms - under glass. Size: 7.75" L x 5" W (19.7 cm x 12.7 cm); 24" L x 21.5" W (61 cm x 54.6 cm) framed
19th century women’s magazines published fashion plates - wonderful illustrations of women’s clothing that were intended to guide the reader towards the latest styles. "The Lady’s Magazine and Museum" was born after two older ladies magazines "The Lady’s Magazine" and "The Lady’s Monthly Museum" - came together. Both of these early magazines began in England in the late 18th century; however, by the 1830s, recognizing that they were faced with great competition, they merged into one publication, continuing until 1847.

This engraving has not been examined outside the frame. Some foxing to the paper a shown. Mats, frame, and glass which post-date the work are excellent.
