European, Continental School, ca. 19th century. An oil on canvas still life painting featuring an inviting bowl of fruit with clusters of luscious red, black, and green grapes, juicy peaches, and a delightful pineapple; a beautiful floral arrangement in an elegant glass vase; an elegant bronze and green enamel pitcher to the right, and a partially peeled orange with its spiraling rind, a knife, as well as a long tendril of grape leaves extending over the edge of the tabletop. The table itself is covered in a ruby red cloth lined with gold fringe, and a jade green curtain billows in the background to complete the scene. The artist employed trompe l'oeil effects to capture the various textures of the fruits, flowers, vessels, and fabric. Foreshortening and atmospheric perspective also make for marvelous sense of depth and the illusion of three dimensionality. A charming still life painting of a tabletop arrangement depicted in a Neo-Baroque manner and with palpable details that appeal to the senses. Size: 24" L x 20" W (61 cm x 50.8 cm)
