Northwestern Europe, England, London, ca. early to mid-19th century CE. A fine pair of wood, brass, and elephant ivory instruments made by British makers Richard Bilton and Hermann Wrede. Cramer, and the upper joint is marked: "BILTON FECIT LATE APPCE & FOREN TO CRAMER LONDON" to indicate his connection with this other well-known instrument maker. The other clarinet is made by Hermann Wrede from boxwood with brass keys and an ebony mouthpiece. The bell is stamped "H. WREDE / 35 / LR. WHITE CROSS ST. / CRIPPLEGATE / LONDON." This is a fine pair of instruments by well documented makers that would make excellent display pieces! Size (Wrede): 19.25" L x 2.5" W (48.9 cm x 6.4 cm); (Bilton): 23.5" L x 3" W (59.7 cm x 7.6 cm)
