Northwestern Europe, England, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A collection of carved antique ebony wood and bovine bone fronted dominoes in two wooden cases. The dominoes are handmade, and the bone face is secured to the wood back with a nail through the center. The cases are constructed from wood with a sliding lid panel. The darker box has double sliding lids and some additional markings and motifs. Dominoes was introduced to England in the early 1800s by French prisoners of war, and it became a widely popular game. Included are 75 tiles and 2 original wooden cases. Nice signs of use and age, and these are durable and could still be used for playing. Size wood case: 7" L x 2.5" W x 2" H (17.8 cm x 6.4 cm x 5.1 cm); tiles: 1.75" L x 0.875" W (4.4 cm x 2.2 cm)

One domino is a newer replacement with hand drawn dots on the bone face. Chips and nicks to tiles. Surface wear and fading of painted pigments. Wear and patina to wooden cases.
